Maori Culture & History

This is a brilliant tour for visitors wanting a historical Rotorua experience. The Maori Culture & History tour includes:

Kuirau Park, Ohinemutu Marae, Motutara Point, Government Gardens, Rotorua Museum, Redwoods, Lake Tarawera, Buried Village, Blue and Green Lakes lookout, Te Puia, Whakarewarewa, Maori Carving School.

It provides a fully guided walk through Ohinemutu Maori Village including a visit to Tama Te Kapua meeting house and St Faith’s church. Discover why Maori and later Europeans were attracted to the healing waters of the thermal area.Delve into the volcanic past including the 1886 Mt Tarawera eruption, and local history at the Rotorua Museum.

At the Buried Village, walk the waterfall trail through the rainforest, learn about the Mt Tarawera eruption, and view breathtaking panoramas of lakes and mountains.

An ideal place for lunch, see the destructive forces of Mt Tarawera first hand at Te Wairoa – Rotorua Buried Village – and stroll through the excavated sites experiencing the culture of the Maori people. End the day with a visit to Te Puia at Whakarewarewa thermal reserve and the amazing geothermal activity.

On the way out to the lakes district, Lake Tarawera is visited prior to our stop at Te Wairoa Buried Village for a light lunch.
